Water shortages in the Almogia and Casabermeja areas are currently affecting around 2,500 people.
The dwindling water supply is resulting in regular cuts in supply to residents of Almogia and Casabermeja. The cuts are mainly affecting those in rural areas, although not exclusively.
Both municipalities are currently reliant upon outside sources for their water supply, tankers being used to fill up the local reservoirs and depositos. The provincial Department of the Environment has issued an emergency decree making funds available to those willing or able to supply Almogia, Casabermeja and neighbouring Colmenar, where water restrictions are also in place, with fresh water.
In the meantime, local residents are suffering regular cuts in supply. Some experience one day on, one day off, others face more prolonged periods without running water, up to a month in extreme cases.
The current cuts are not due to municipal water restrictions but to a lack of water pressure. There is just insufficient pressure, especially during peak hours, to pump the water to the houses.
