Two people were detained, although later released, following a shooting incident in the Barriada de Los Poetas area of Nerja.
A waiter at a bar in the Barriada de Los Poetas area of Nerja felt something hit him in the back and when he turned round he saw two children on a balcony, one of whom was carrying a rifle, the other carrying a pistol. Thinking the guns were real (!), the waiter called the Local Police.
The police visited the house of the alleged gunmen and found the two children, both Swedish nationals, and their weapons. The mother was taken to the police station to make a statement and the toy guns, although perfectly legal, were confiscated as they had been used to ’cause danger to persons or objects’.
The children were later released without charge. Had they actually been charged, they could have faced a fine of up to €3,000.
The weapons have been handed to the Guardia Civil on the grounds of breaching the law relating to the Protection of Public Security.
One would have thought that, had the guns been real, the waiter would have felt more than ‘something’ hit his back!
