ETA has begun its annual summer campaign, four bombs going off in Cantabria.
ETA has been carrying out summer bombing campaigns for thirty years now and yesterday, four bombs exploded in Cantabria.
Bomb number one exploded on Laredo beach near the promenade, the blast damaging the windows of nearby houses. The beach had already been cleared following a phone call warning to the police.
Bomb number two went off on playa de Ris in Noja, the device having been placed next to a lifeguard post at the entrance to the beach and about 50 metres from the car park. Once again, the beach had already been evacuated.
Bomb number three went off on the Paseo Marítimo in Laredo, only about 300 metres from the site of the first explosion of the day. The bomb had been placed under a stand used by Red Cross lifeguards.
Bomb number four exploded at hole number 8 on Noja golf course, about 500 metres from playa de Ris. The blast caused a shower of stones to go hurtling through the air, one of them hitting an elderly woman in the back and causing a slight injury. The woman’s pregnant granddaughter suffered a nervous breakdown and was taken to hospital.
Experts are now analysing the blasts to ascertain the amount of explosives used and the composition of the devices.
