As from August 2008, medicines for children under one year of age will be free of charge.
The Junta de Andalucía has approved measures to provide free medicine and medical devices prescribed by a physician for children under the age of one year. Currently, the price paid for such medicines is between 10% and 40% of the cost.
The scheme, which will see the Junta de Andalucía bearing the full cost of the medicines, will benefit around 95,000 children at a cost of €4.5 million.
Last year, children under one year of age consumed 62,878 packets of antibiotics, 57,469 analgesics and 49,613 anti-asthmatic medicines.
