Nerja Council is proposing to spend €1.5 million on improvements to the old N-340 coast road.
In February this year, an agreement was signed between the Nerja Council and the Ministry of Public Works transferring control of the N-340 to the municipal authority. Now, the Council is proposing to carry out an improvement programme which includes the construction of two new roundabaouts, new pavements, landscaping and improvements to lighting.
The Council is responsible for a six kilometre stretch of the old N-340 coast road between the border with Torrox and the village of Maro. There are currently 10 roundabouts on this section of road. The two new roundabaouts will be at Punta Lara and the entrance to Maro.
Each roundabout takes between four and six months to complete.
The project is still only in the draft stage but the Council are optimistic that the works can be put out to tender by the end of this year and be completed by the end of 2009.
