Two cayucos arrived on the island of La Gomera yesterday carrying a total of 151 passengers trying to immigrate through irregular channels.
Boat number one arrived early yesterday morning, actually reaching the island under its own power. On board were 80 people, although one of the passengers was dead on arrival. It is thought that up to nine of the immigrants could be minors.
The second boat arrived at the same location, Playa de Santiago, later during the day. There were 71 people on board, 10 of them children, and 12 people needed medical attention. Three of the occupants were transferred to a local hospital for further checks and treatment.
