35 illegal immigrants rescued

Thirty-five sub-Saharan travellers were rescued from their half-sunken dinghy yesterday just off the island of Alborán, Almería.

The six metre long rubber dinghy, half submerged due to overcrowding, was first spotted by a fishing vessel and was eventually intercepted about 4 miles north of the island of Alborán. All on board were male and said to be in good health, all things considered.

The dinghy, powered by a 25hp motor, had also suffered during storms in the area. The passengers are now in the port of Almería awaiting further processing.
