The Nerja Council is asking for further protest marches by market traders to be stopped.
The Council is asking the provincial delegate, Hilary Lopez Luna, to put a stop to any further protest marches on the grounds that they disrupt traffic, impede local residents and are damaging the ‘image’ of the town during the peak tourist season.
On the subject of the incidents which occured during last Tuesday’s march, the Council expressed its total support for the police and their handling of the situation. One man was arrested and charged with assault.
The Council and representatives of the Market Traders Association, AVAM, are scheduled to meet tomorrow to discuss the situation. The meeting had been scheduled for last week but was postponed until Tuesday and then postponed once more until Friday.
In the meantime, the president of AVAM, Juan Rojas, has been in talks with the chairman of the Partido Popular in Málaga province, Joaquín Ramírez and has persuaded him to act as a(nother) mediator in the dispute.
