At its plenary session, the Nerja Council has been discussing the proposed restoration works to the Eagle Aquaduct.
The Council has been discussing a motion by the Department of Culture to request the Junta de Andalucía to sign the agreement to implement the restoration works to the Eagle Aquaduct, a local monument.
The aquaduct was formerly owned by the Larios Sugar Company, as are most things in the area, but was signed over to the municipality in 2005. Nerja Council has set aside €100,000 in its 2008 budget for the restoration works.
The aquaduct, although still in use as part of the agricultural irrigation system, is badly in need of repair. It suffered initial damage during the Spanish Civil War!! Things don’t always move swiftly in Spain…
