The Ministry of Public Works has approved a draft amendment to the Maro – Nerja Caves footbridge project to allow for the construction of sonic barriers.
Residents in the area have been complaining about the noise levels in their houses since the construction of the A-7 highway some seven years ago. Some residents are even unable to have their windows open because of the noise.
A week or so ago, residents in the urbanisation Puente Águilar complained to the Ministry of Public Works as the local authorities had done very little to address the situation apart from plant a few Cypress trees.
The proposed sonic barrier will be 152 metres in length and will cost around €210,000 to install.
