The meeting between the Nerja market traders and the Local Council actually took place on Friday after being postponed a couple of times.
The meeting was described by both sides in the dispute as ‘very positive’, although nothing has actually been settled.
The meeting was attended by the mayor, José Alberto Armijo, the Councillor for Markets, José Miguel Jimena, the Municipal Spokesperson, José Miguel García, the Councillor for Security, Andrés Márquez, the head of the Market Traders Association AVAM, Juan Rojas, and a few others.
The Council has agreed to approach certain private landowners, such as the one who owns the calle Los Huertos/Carabeo plot, with regard to pursuing alternative sites for the market. They have also asked the traders to offer any suggestions for improvements to the current site.
However, the Council has also asked the traders to end their dispute, protest marches etc and resolve the issue through dialogue.
