Vélez-Málaga Council has declared war on noise pollution after the Supreme Court ordered them to pay €2.8 million euros compensation to 18 people in Torre del Mar who complained about noise from local bars.
Vélez-Málaga Council is keen to avoid further complaints and possible compensation payments and has declared war on noise pollution.
A new Municipal Ordinance has already been sent to the Boletín Oficial de la Provincia (Provincial Gazette), the prelude to any new bylaws being implemented and enforced.
Noise levels are defined and take into account the area concerned, such as private homes or vicinity to a school or hospital, with hefty penalties for infringements. Penalties include precautionary closure orders as well as economic sanctions, fines in other words, based on the seriousness of the infringement. Each case will be individually judged and fines of over €3,000 are not out of the question in serious cases.
The Council is promising to enforce the new ordinance ‘with vigour’, as they like to say.
