It is now seven weeks since Nerja had a weekly market as the dispute between the market traders and the Council continues.
Once again the market traders refused to set up their stalls on the new site in Almijara, instead choosing to congregate outside the Council offices to protest. All was peaceful this week, no incidents reported.
The Council has agreed to contact two private landowners regarding possible alternative sites for the market but has reiterated that the only municipal land available is that in Almijara. The traders continue to reject the new site on the grounds of being too small, insecure and too far from the centre of town.
