Britain’s Rebecca Adlington claimed a surprise gold medal in the swimming with fellow Briton Jo Jackson claiming beonze.
Nineteen year old Rebecca Adlington became Britain’s first Olympic swimming champion for 48 years as she sprinted home in the 400 metre freestyle to beat the American Katie Hoff. At the 100 metre mark, Adlington was in sixth place and at 200 metres she was eighth, but she timed her finish to perfection to pip Hoff by seven 100ths of a second.
