The British woman who was assaulted with a cricket bat in Nerja, allegedly by her husband, is now in Carlos Haya hospital and is said to be in a stable condition.
The couple, who live at calle Pintada 48, have been in Nerja for three years and there seems to be no record of previous violent behaviour either in Spain or in the UK.
The woman, initials A.R.G., suffered head wounds after being assaulted with a cricket bat and a spanner. The attack took place while she was sleeping and there was a trail of blood where she staggered onto the street to get help. She was initially taken to Vélez-Málaga but later transferred to Carlos Haya hospital in the capital.
The husband, 59 year old R.C.G., was detained at the scene as the alleged perpetrator of the assault. He has been charged with attempted murder and gender violence and is currently in the care of the local Guardia Civil.
Strangely, the victim has refused to lodge a complaint of abuse against her husband.
