A boat carrying 23 illegal immigrants was intercepted yesterday about seven miles from Castell de Ferro in Granada province.
One of the passengers on board had called the authorities to say they were drifting without fuel. Two of the immigrants who were complaining of not feeling well were transferred to a Guardia Civil boat and taken straight to Motril to be checked over by the Red Cross.
Both were in some discomfort as a result of their journey but did not require hospital treatment. The rest of the passengers were escorted to Motril by a boat from the Marine Rescue service.
Once in Motril, the new arrivals were transferred to the Immigration Care Centre where they will remain until Monday or Tuesday before being repatriated.
