Over 200 athletes competed in the XVI Media Legua Playa de Burriana on Friday on a new course which included more running on sand and, therefore, was more difficult.
This strange race, which involves negotiating sunbeds, bathers and various other bits of beach furniture, is held in honour of Francisco Ortega Olalla, better known as ‘Ayo’.
The race is sponsored by the Town Hall, The Nerja Caves Foundation, the Junta de Andalucía, Málaga University, Málaga Council and Unicaja.
The overall winners were Alvaro Fernandez and Beatriz Jimenez, both of the Cueva de Nerja-Uma athletics club.

Infants: Laura Illanes (Alhaurín) and Ouassim Oumaiz (Nerja)
Junior: Andrea Figueroa (Nerja) and Salvador Serrano (Vélez)
Infants: Maite Berlanga (Nerja) and Javier Herrero (Nerja)
Cadet: Belén Infantes (Alora) and Pablo Sánchez ( C. Granada)
Juvenile: Patricia Moreno (Nerja) and Rubén García (Alhaurín)
Youth: Maria Ros (Nerja) and José Mario García (Nerja)
Young hopefuls: Elena López (Nerja) and Cristian Benítez (C. Málaga)
Senior: Beatriz Jiménez (Nerja) and Álvaro Fernández (Nerja)
Veteran A: Victoria Trinidad (Mijas) and Félix Dieter (Nerja)
