To date, 130 of the 154 victims of the Madrid air crash on August 20th have been positively identified, mostly through DNA testing.
The identification process has been slow and difficult due to the poor condition of the bodies after the crash and this has forced the postponement of the planned funeral service until September 11th. The funeral was originally planned for September 1st.
There are 14 survivors still in various hospitals. Two, 44 year old Gregoria Mendiola Rodríguez and 57 year old Pedro Hernán Gómez remain in a very serious to critical condition.
A further 5 people remain in a serious condition and 7 are said to be progressing favourably, including two children who survived the crash.
Spanair has opened a ‘call centre’, open from 09:00 to 21:00, to provide information for families of the victims on the procedures for obtaining the advanced payment of €25,000 compensation.
