A fire in a garage in El Puerto de Santa María, Cádiz, early this morning resulted in 500 people being evacuated from their homes as a precautionary measure.
In the early hours of the morning, a fire was reported in one of the garages in a block of flats in avenida del Tejar and as a precautionary measure, firefighters and police decided to evacuate the residents of 11 housing blocks, a total of 500 people.
The fire was traced to a motorbike in the garage which, for unknown reasons, had caught fire. As well as the bike itself, two cars were damaged as well as a number of supply pipes.
Residents were allowed to return to their homes at 06:30, two hours after the reported start of the fire. However, due to the damage caused to the water supply pipes located in the garage, they were unable to use their bathrooms!
