A total of nineteen people have so far lost their lives this summer in Andalucía through drowning, either whilst bathing in the sea or in swimming pools or ponds.
The vast majority of fatalities have been as a result of people getting into difficulties whilst swimming, either through their own inexperience or due to adverse sea conditions. There were two cases where the victims had suffered heart attacks.
Two of the victims were minors, seven were aged 60 years or more and ten were in the age group 20 to 50 years. The total is seven more than during the whole of the 2007 summer period.
