Today, Wednesday, sees a change in the law regarding mopeds. Drivers of such vehicles now have to be 18 years old before they can carry pillion passengers, this having been raised from 16 years.
In addition, tests for a licence are to become more difficult and will, for the first time, include a theory section. However, the planned raising of the minimum age limit for driving a moped from 14 years to 15 years has been postponed and will not now come into effect for another two years.
This postponement has been criticised in many quarters, not least by road safety organisations.
