In the early hours of this morning, 300 people had to be evacuated from urbanisation Buenavista in Mijas as a forest fire advanced towards their homes.
The blaze, initially on two fronts, started at 19:45 yesterday evening in the Sierra del Repetidor near Mijas and over 200 people battled the flames throughout the night. Local firefighters were joined by others from all over the province as well from Sevilla and Córdoba.
The fire caused the closure of the A-7 and A-368 into Mijas and although diversions were set up, some local residents were still unable to get to their homes.
After the initial outbreaks, another fire began on a third front. Two areas are currently ‘under control’.
There is speculation that the fire was started deliberately.
