A fire caused by a breakdown of the air conditioning system at the Hospital Materno-Infantil caused a bit of a scare yesterday as thick smoke quickly spread over the entire first floor.
The smoke traveled through the air conditioning ducts and forced the evacuation of about twenty people, although none of them suffered any injuries.
The fire started after a malfunction in the air conditioning system next to one of the operating theatres on the first floor. Fortunately, the operating theatre was not occupied at the time. Technical staff from the hospital quickly extinguished the fire and damage was minimal.
After about an hour, the smkoe had been dispersed and it was back to normal at the hospital.
