The government of Vélez-Málaga (PP and PA) has said it has no intention of reducing the salaries of elected members or other principal staff in the face of the current economic crisis, unlike institutions such as the Andalucian Parliament and the Congress of Deputies who have decided to freeze salaries as an austerity measure.
The mayor, Franscisco Delgado Bonilla, does not believe that reducing salaries or the numbers of special staff is necessary and points out that, anyway, salaries in the municipality have effectively been ‘frozen’ since the start of the current legislature.
The mayor added that the municipal government is carrying out an austerity plan and has so far achieved a 15% reduction in overall government spending, including a 40% reduction in the telephone bill.
