Cycling legend Lance Armstrong is coming out of retirement in order to try and win an eighth Tour de France in 2009.
Armstrong, who will be 37 years old on September 18th, won the Tour de France seven times in a row before retiring in 2005.
Since retiring, he has not been idle, posting reasonable times in both the New York and Boston marathons, as well as spending a lot of his time running the Lance Armstrong Foundation, a charity dedicated to combating cancer. Armstrong himself, of course, famously overcame testicular cancer before going on to win a record number of Tours.
Armstrong has been inspired by the recent performances of older athletes at the Olympics but also wants to try and promote cancer awareness on a global level.
The Tour de France has been plagued with drug scandals in recent years and Armstrong himself came under fire from the French magazine L’Equipe, so one would imagine that during the race he would feel more like a pin cushion than a cyclist as he is quite likely to be tested rather frequently.
