A man, of Moroccan nationality, has been detained in connection with the stabbing of Senegalese Ousmane Kote in Roquetas de Mar, an incident which sparked several nights of rioting.
The detainee is thought to be a witness to the incident as well as a participant, although not the person who did the actual stabbing. In that respect, police are searching for a Spanish man known locally as ‘the Gypsy’, although he is not actually of gypsy origin.
Initial indications were that Ousmane Kote died as a result of a ‘settling of acccounts’ relating to drugs but this theory has now been discounted. It now seems that Osmane Kote tried to mediate in a dispute between two men, the Moroccan who is now in detention and a Spanish man, which had deteriorated into a brawl.
After several nights of disturbances, all is now quiet in Roquetas de Mar with a heavy police presence on the streets to ensure no further troubles begin.
