The Nerja market traders were once again outside the Town Hall on Tuesday to protest about the new market site in Almijara. In the meantime, a meeting has taken place between the head of the Association of Market Traders, Juan Rojas, the mayor of Nerja, José Alberto Armijo, and the mayor of Vélez-Málaga, Francisco Delgado Bonilla.
The meeting once again raised the possiblity of using the calle Carabeo/Los Huertos area as a ‘temporary’ site for the market until such time as the owner of the land decides to start building. To this end, contact will once again be made with the landowner to try and reach an agreement.
The Association of Market Traders asked the mayor of Vélez-Málaga to mediate in the dispute after the previous mediator, the Ombudsman for Andalucía, ruled in favour of the Council.
Francisco Delgado Bonilla said he wanted to find a solution to the problem ‘this week’. He added that, although he didn’t want to meddle in Nerja’s internal affairs, he felt the need to protect the interests of the market traders, most of whom live in Vélez-Málaga.
