The Dirección General de Bienes Culturales (Directorate General of Cultural Assets) is attempting to have the 10th Century Zalia castle listed in the Catálogo del Patrimonio Histórico Andaluz (Andalucían Catalogue of Historical Heritage) as a means of further protecting this historical monument.
The castle, in Alcaucín, is already listed as ‘cultural’, but this added measure would ensure that urban development in the immediate vicinity of the ruin would be restricted.
