Two men have been arrested in Nerja as the alleged perpetrators of threats and extortion carried out in the name of ETA.
Two brothers, born in Avilés but resident in Fuengirola and Mijas, threatened local business people with ETA reprisals if they didn’t hand over money. The men met with a local businessman yesterday and they demanded €5,000 ‘or else’. The Guardia Civil were informed and when the money was taken to the designated drop point, a rubbish bin near the Nerja Caves, officers were waiting.
A car drew up and one of the occupants got out and retrieved the bag of money. The brothers then spotted the police officers and attempted to flee, first in the car and then later on foot, but both were duly nabbed.
