A 66 year old bather died on Saturday afternoon in Almuñecar. The man had been swimming at Puerta del Mar beach near the Altillo promenade.
The accident happened at around 14:30. Another bather rescued the man and brought him to shore where medics tried in vain to resuscitate him. It is thought that the man died as a result of drowning, although an autopsy is to be carried out. The man’s wife, who had accompanied him to the beach, told officials that her husband was not suffering from any kind of illness which would cause him problems while swimming.
