The Opposition Socialist PSOE members walked out of the Council plenary session as a vote was about to be taken relating to a proposal to amend the statutes of the Nerja Caves Foundation to enable it to be brought under the control of Town Hall and the mayor, José Alberto Armijo.
The current head of the Nerja Caves Foundation is Ángel Ramírez, who is also the leader of and spokesperson for the Opposition PSOE. Ramírez apparently came in for a lot of criticism about the way the Nerja Caves Foundatation is being run. The PSOE were originally intending to abstain from the vote, but circumstances changed and Ramírez decided to call on his members to walk out of the session.
The PP spokesperson, José Miguel García Jimena, accused the Opposition leader of being irresponsible and said, as a politician, he should be able to take criticism or be open to suggestions. He also accused Ramírez of putting the interests of the Nerja Caves Foundation above the interests of the municipality.
The plenary session was subsequently abandoned.
