One soldier has died and six other people have been wounded, one of them seriously, following at ETA car bomb attack at the Virgen del Puerto Military Academy in Santoña. This was the third car bomb attack over the weekend.
A warning call in the name of ETA was received by the DYA in San Sebastian at 00:24 this morning and police cordoned off the area. The explosion occurred in calle Almirante Carrero Blanco at 01:00 killing one soldier, Luis Conde de la Cruz, and seriously injuring a second. Five passers-by who had wandered into the area also suffered minor cuts from flying shrapnel or suffered anxiety attacks.
The wounded soldier was taken to Hospital de Laredo where he will undergo surgery for injuries to his hip and leg. Although his condition is described as serious, his injuries are not considered life-threatening.
