The Blue and Whites continues their poor start to the season, this time losing 1-0 to local rivals Almería. Negredo was the match winner for Almería with a goal fifteen minutes before the end. Málaga have yet to find the opposition net this season so far! Both teams ended up with ten men after Miguel Angel and Ortíz were shown straight red cards. The win moved Almería into second place in La Liga, level on points with the leaders, Valencia.
Barcelona, who also started the season somewhat poorly, began the day in the relegation zone and ended up in the top half after edging past Sporting Gijón 6-1.
Xavi opened the scoring for Barcelona midway through the first half, heading home an Iniesta cross. Eto’o got the second from a corner five minutes later. Jorge headed a Xavi corner in to his own net to make it three before Maldonado got one back for Sporting a minute later.
Messi set up Iniesta for a fourth and then grabbed two for himself. Sporting played the last half hour with ten men after Gerard was sent off, and the defeat leaves them firmly anchored to the foot of the table.
Real Madrid are now just one point behind the top four after a 2-0 win against Racing Santander, De La Red and van Nistelrooy getting the goals.
Villarreal are in third spot in La Liga after coming from behind to beat newcomers Numancia 2-1. Gorka Brit gave Numancia the lead on the stroke of half time, but Cazorla and Llorente ensured victory for Villareal in the second half.
