Two police officers, patrolling calle Nueva in Málaga city, spotted a moped rider heading down the pavement. The rider, seeing the police, immediately shot off down calle Liborio García. The two officers gave chase on foot.
The rider headed down calle Antonio Baena Gómez and then continued along calle Martínez, causing consternation to numerous pedestrians. The two officers continued their energetic chase but did radio for assistance.
On to Puerta del Mar, where the driver jumped a red light and almost caused an accident. He then shot off again, jumping another red light at the junction of calle Guillén and calle de Castro.
Eventually, another patrol was able to intecept and stop him in calle José Manuel García Caparrós.
The driver, a 39 year old Moroccan, was wearing a crash helmet, but that was the total extent of his legality.
The officers noted that the man appeared under the influence of either alcohol or drugs, and so it was two offences to be ticketed, driving under the influence and reckless driving.
A quick check revealed that the man did not actually possess a driving licence. Ticket number three. Checking the documentation for the moped, the police noticed that the machine didn’t actually belong to their prisoner. A call to the registered owner revealed that the moped had been stolen earlier in the morning. Ticket number four, theft and use of a stolen vehicle.
Obviously going for gold, the prisoner then refused to submit to an alcohol test, resulting in ticket number five for the day.
A subsequent police check on the prisoner revealed a prior record of at least 80 offences of one sort or another.
