The Health Department of the Junta de Andalucía has fairly quickly rejected three of the four sites proposed by the Council for the construction of a new health centre.
As expected, the Giner de los Rios Centre was rejected due to its location in the centre of town and the narrowness of the roads.
The site in calle Mirto was rejected because it is too far out of town. The Department of Health reported that the area is on a steep slope on the outskirts of town and would only provide relatively quick easy and easy access to a small proportion of the population.
This, incidentally, is in the same area as the new market site! Similar criteria apply to the market – out of town, limited access to a small proportion of the population! Wonder what the reaction would be if it were decreed that the Council should have a new Town Hall building in this area!!!
The site next to the existing health centre, a partially built structure, was deemed unsuitable for technical reasons.
That leaves the area behind the Mercadona supermarket down on the Rio Chillar riverbed. The Health Department pointed out that it is a bit on the small side but are considering it as an option. They now want to know what sort of timescale would be involved in securing the land – it is privately owned – and how much would be involved in changing its registered status (PGOU) from educational to health.
