The Nerja Council has called for a gathering at noon today outside the Town Hall following the latest incident of gender violence in which a 25 year old woman died yesterday on the Balcón de Europa.
Cecilia Natalia C. Olivares, a 25 year old Argentinian woman, was putting out the tables on the terrace of the cafe where she worked, La Biznaga, when she was attacked from behind and stabbed in the back by her former boyfriend, Hicham B., a 29 year old Moroccan.
Cecilia Natalia, suffering a serious wound from the 20 cm blade, tried to defend herself against further attacks, suffering numerous cuts to her arms in the process.
A waiter at the cafe threw a chair at the attacker to try and stop the onslaught and staff from the nearby Marissal cafe also ran across to try and help. Her attacker then ran off in the direction of Plaza Cavana.
Cecelia Natalia was still alive when the Emergency Services arrived on the scene but, unfortunately, they were unable to save her life. Before she died, Cecilia identified her attacker to the police and twenty minutes later, Hicham B was located and detained.
Although the couple had apparently split up some six months earlier, her former partner had been harrassing and threatening her since that time and was the subject of a restraining order.
