National Police officers have seized more than 7,000 kilos of hashish in two operations carried out in Cádiz province. A total of five people have so far been arrested and are now enjoying the comforts of prison.
The first operation, codenamed ‘Condor’, took place earlier this month when police officers seized one ton of hashish hidden on a pleasure boat in Cádiz port. Four people were arrested, amongst whom was the man believed to be the head of the smuggling network.
Further investigation led to the discovery that another shipment of hashish was due to arrive on a fishing trawler. Having ascertained the identity of the boat owner, the police found that the trawler was already docked in Sanlúcar and when they arrived on the scene, several people were busy off-loading packages.
The arrival of the police, however, alerted the people unloading the boat and they managed to evade capture. One man was arrested, though, an alleged colleague of the boat owner.
On this occasion the police seized around 6,000 kilos of hashish contained in 206 packages. It is the largest consignment of hashish siezed in Andalucia this year.
