Work on the new Fire Station in Nerja could begin before the end of this year according to the latest reports.
The ceding of the land for the new facility, a 3,600 square metre plot just north of the roundabout leading to the motorway on the way to Frigiliana, was unanimously approved during this week’s Council plenary session.
There is, of course, the inevitable ‘however’.
However, the site still has to be approved by the technical department of the Málaga Provincial Council as being suitable for the purpose.
Assuming that it is approved, work on the €1.8 million project could begin before the end of the year. The current, temporary location of the Nerja Fire Brigade (one fire engine and two firemen) is the sports stadium, but there is every intention of moving them to a new temporary site at the top of the hill leading down to Burriana beach.
If the change of ‘temporary’ location goes ahead, and there are various approvals still to be sought regarding such a move, it will automatically mean the addition of one more vehicle and one more fireman.
