Work on the new Fire Station in Nerja is now more likely to start during the first half of next year, which means that completion would more than likely be in 2010.
It is now planned to put the project out to tender in January or February, with the actual work starting as soon as possible after that.
The €1.8 million project is being financed by the Provincial Fire Department and when completed, will give cover to Nerja, Frigiliana, Torrox and the Sierra Almijara area. The mayor of Nerja, José Alberto Armijo, says that they will be asking the technicians from the Provincial Council to try and ensure that the new facility has the least possible visual and environmental impact on the area.
The site for the new facility is a 3,600 square metre plot of land just past the motorway roundabout on the road to Frigiliana.
They could always just build everything underground and put nice pretty trees on top! Or a golf course!
