At last something is being done about an obsolete law relating to motor vehicles. The Senate has approved a motion which urges the Government to amend the law relating to the compulsory carrying of a spare set of lights.
Around 13,000 people were fined last year for not having a spare set of lights in the car, despite this being an obsolete requirement.
Most modern headlights are sealed units, making it virtually impossible for the average motorist to fix. In addition, even when it is possible for the motorist to change a bulb himself, the risk of electric shock from the xenon lights is quite significant. These days, most people just go to a garage when a bulb goes.
A Partido Popular motion to refund motorists fined for not having a spare set of lights was rejected.
