The former mayor of Marbella, Julian Muñoz, walked out of prison yesterday evening after being granted ‘third grade’ status.
The change in status means Muñoz, one of several former mayors and officials involved in the ´Malaya’ corruption scandal, can leave the prison each morning and only has to return at night from Monday to Thursday.
Muñoz was taken into custody in July 2006 during the ‘Malaya’ corruption scandal which rocked Marbella and has already served three quarters of three sentences for which he was convicted.
One month ago, however, he was convicted along with four other former councillors of involvement in the issuing of dodgy building licenses for the construction of 250 houses. He was sentenced to one year in prison and was disqualified from holding public office for a period of ten years.
