The Minister of Industry, Tourism and Trade, Miguel Sebastián, is predicting that the price of diesel could fall below €1 per litre by the end of the year. That is, of course, providing the euro continues its current trend and crude oil prices continue to fall.
The minister also plans to freeze the price of butane gas in January and has stated that the price of natural gas will go down in the new year. He explained that the reason the government had to raise gas prices recently was to ensure supply throughout the winter. Spain does not have any gas of its own, it all has to be imported, and two-thirds comes in by sea.
Boats arrive and, if they do not get what they consider to be a good price, they take their cargo elsewhere, so the government has to ensure that it can maintain supply levels, especially in the winter when demand is higher.
