A total of 73 paperless migrants from sub-Saharan Africa have arrived in Motril after their seven metre boat was intercepted near the island of Alborán. Amongst the passengers are eight very young children.
Red Cross officials were on hand to assist the new arrivals, four of whom were suffering from mild hyperthermia and required treatment.
One of the men on board the boat was holding a baby and he apparently told the authorities that the mother was dead. Police are now try to ascertain whether the mother died during the journey to Spain.
The boat was intercepted after a relative of one of those on board alerted the Emergency Services.
