Barcelona are well on the way into the next round of the Champions League after traveling to Basel and giving them a jolly good thrashing, 0-5 the final score. Messi, Busquets and Krkic put Barca three-up at the midway point, although they could have scored a few more.
It was a lively start to the second half with two goals inside the first three minutes, Krkic getting a second and Xavi also putting his name on the scorecard.
In Madrid, Liverpool took the lead against Atlético with a goal from Robbie Keane but were pegged back when Simao Sabrosa fired one home with seven minutes remaining. Keane had to be replaced early in the second half after suffering a groin injury and is considered an unlikely starter for Sunday’s match against Chelsea.
Atlético top the group on goal difference with Liverpool in second place, both having seven points.
