The actual structure set to house the Nerja Historical Museum, being build by the company Bauen on a plot of land on the Paseo Nuevo, could be completed by the end of this year according to the Nerja Caves Foundation.
The building is six floors, two of which are underground, and covers an area of about 1,500 square metres. The completion will coincide with the 50th anniversary of the discovery of the Nerja Caves, and event which is to be celebrated with great gusto and the spending of millions of euros.
The company Ingenia QED then has the task of actually turning the building into a museum, a project which has a timescale of eighteen months. This means that the Museum could be officially inaugurated midway through 2010.
In addition to ‘fixed’ exhibits relating to the Nerja Caves, there is to be a hall for temporary exhibits and well as ‘multi-purpose’ areas.
The actual construction has been financed through a loan from Unicaja (€2.1 million) and it is envisaged that the following stage, with a budget of €1.8 million, will be paid for jointly by the Nerja Caves Foundation and the Junta de Andalucía.
