Searches carried out after the arrest of four ETA suspects yesterday resulted in the discovery of both arms and explosives, an indicator, according to the Interior Minister, Alfredo Pérez Rubalcaba, that the ‘comando Nafarroa’ was ready and probably preparing an attack.
The Minister praised the police for their action, saying that ‘prevention was better than cure’ when it came to terrorism. He said that when a comando was actually in possession of arms and explosives, it normally meant they were preparing an attack and, in this case, the indications are that such an attack would have been in the Navarra region.
Although one of those detained, a woman, was arrested in Valencia, this is believed to be purely circumstancial and there is no evidence of any ETA comando structure in the Valencia region itself.
