Work has started on the new roundabout at Punta Lara/Tropicana on the old N-340 coastal road, part of an agreement (Plan Integral para la Mejora de la Peatonalización y la Transitabilidad) signed by the Council with the Ministry of Public Works when control of the old coastal road was transferred to the municipal authority.
In addition to the roundabout itself, a paved section is also to be added, the general idea being to improve safety in the area for both motorists and pedestrians. The works will, naturally, cause some disruption in the area. Completion of this stage of the project is currently anticipated before next summer.
The total project, costing €1.5 million, will also involve, amongst other things, a new roundabout near Maro, improvements to the Puente Nuevo bridge, general street lighting improvements and a new parking area near the Eagle Aquaduct.
