José Rodríguez Salvador, known as the Vall d’Hebron rapist, has been detained in Granada after the Provincial Court in Barcelona ordered his re-arrest and return to jail.
Rodríguez Salvador was released last year after serving 16 of the 311 years imposed on him in connection with seventeen cases of rape. The order to re-arrest him came after the Supreme Court decided he must serve his sentence fully under the ‘Parot doctrine’.
The Parot doctrine states that any benefits, such as early release through good behaviour, should be computed on each sentence individually and not on the sum of the sentences. He has therefore been sent back to prison to serve four more years in order to comply with the maximum sentence allowed by law for his crime, namely twenty years.
