Torrox Council is to hold a special plenary session today in which it hopes to endorse plans to build a 250 bed private hospital in Calaceite.
Bescanvi S.L., who are proposing to build the medical facility, has already reached an agreement with the group El Fuerte Hotels to develop a part of a plot of land it owns in Calaceite.
The venture, if approved, would end up being a three-way agreement between the Council, El Fuerte Hotels and Bescanvi S.L. The Council would need to adapt the existing plans for the area, which include housing and an 18 hole golf course, and make adjustment to their budget for next year.
The adoption of the necessary amendments to the current building plans is expected to take six to eight months, after which time the actual building could begin. The Councillor for Tourism, José Pérez (PSA), has been stressing the importance of the project which will create direct employment for around 1,000 people.
The company behind the scheme, Bescanvi S.L., which is using foreign capital to fund the project, are also planning to build a number of other private hospitals throughout Andalucía.
