The Council has provisionally approved its fiscal policy for 2009 and is proposing to freeze direct taxes, such as IBI (rates), road tax, building tax and plusvalia (capital gains).
It is also proposed that any increases in municipal taxes be inline with the Consumer Price Index (CPI).
The municipal tax for refuse collection has not been levied since 1991, since which time it has, in effect, been automatically included in the IBI (rates). However, it has been decided that the inclusion in the IBI will no longer be automatic, but open to debate, which leaves open the possibility of reintroducing it as a separate municipla tax.
